Osmosis / Gang-il Housing Complex
Housing Complex, Public Facilities, Underground Bus Station
Gang-il Dong, Seoul, Korea - 2020
Due to the fast pace of the city development, any trace of pre-existing historical or natural context disappeared. Emerging from this tabula rasa is Seoul's trend to produce gigantic buildings and large ensembles, such as ever larger shopping malls and apartment complexes.
In this context we propose to insert an architectural project acting as a natural phenomenon. Osmosis is proposing a different way of generate space, away from optimized boxes and avoiding a 'garden versus building' dichotomy. A complex program incorporating housing, services and bus station mimics a natural emergence. Gardens are enmeshed in the fabric of the building, which becomes a unified public space.
