The Gurum (cloud) Community Center is a multi-use facility attached to a new town housing complex for about 5000 people. With such a large population settling in what was previously agricultural land, needs vary from kindergarten and indoor sports to yoga and workshop classes.
The extra large terraces are vital extra spaces for socialization and exterior activities. They are also reminiscent of the “Tchoma”, the large cantilevered eaves essential to traditional Korean architecture. As in the traditional version, these covered terraces are excellent for passive climate control.
